MLB May 2026

Compounding the odd start, the Yanks have 2 Triples already. Goldschmidt & Bellinger

They are coming up now in the bottom of the 3rd.

The Cubs have accomplished a rare feat:

With last night’s victory, they’ve won three straight games via a walk-off. They’ve all been against the Cincinnati Reds.

Michael Comforto hit a home run to end the first game. The next night, Michael Busch hit a walk-off single. Last night, the game ended when Busch was walked with the bases loaded.

Dominguez crashed into the wall on the first play and is out. Didn’t drop the ball.

Yeah, that’s a little scary. It looked a bit like the wall-crash that concussed Clint Frazier.

I’ve been listening sporadically today. The last update I heard was he was in concussion protocol and was having a shoulder MRI.

Not all bad news. Caballero came into the game and is playing in the field. The pitch to the funny bone last night didn’t look like a long term injury but I thought he would be on the bench for a day or two.

Also despite it being a bullpen game and the second team playing they are going into the 9th 9-2.

In Boone’s post game conference he said Jasson Dominguez was so far negative for concussion but has a low grade AC joint sprain. He will be on the IL. Probably 10 day.

I just watched a slightly amusing clip of Kiki Hernandez and Alex Call of the Dodgers answering quiz questions about their teammates. Strangely, both Call and Hernandez write left-handed yet both bat and throw right-handed. I understand the advantage of throwing righty at certain positions. And their is also an advantage to batting lefty, obviously. True ambidexterity is rare, but maybe that’s the case?

I thought it was weird that Rickey Henderon threw lefty but batted righty. Yeah, that is weird.

the Cards have this player in the minors:

Jean Michael “Jurrangelo” Cijntje, also nicknamed “Loo”, is a Curaçaoan professional baseball pitcher in the St. Louis Cardinals organization. He is a switch pitcher, having the rare ability to pitch proficiently with both his right and left arm.

It’s always disheartening when someone forgets the fundamentals and makes a mental error.

In today’s Cubs/Reds game, the Cubs had the bases loaded with no one out. Dansby Swanson hit a ground ball. Ke’Bryan Hayes fielded the ball and stepped on third base for the force out. He then threw the ball home to stop the runner from scoring. The Reds catcher, Tyler Stephenson, caught the throw with plenty of time to tag out the runner. But he never tagged him. He stepped on the plate like he was getting the force out, then stepped aside and stood there as Ian Happ slid in to score the run.

The play can be seen here.

Bad news, Good News.

Yanks places Jasson Dominguez on the Injured List. But they promoted Spencer Jones.

Also sent Brendan Beck down to bring Kervon Castro up. Beck threw 3 innings yesterday and 52 pitches, so wasn’t going to be available for 3-4 days.

Milwaukee held the Yankees to 3 hits tonight, and won 6-0.

Brewers pitcher Jacob Misiorowski threw a gem: 6 innings, 2 hits, no runs, 11 strikeouts, 2 walks. For the year, Miz has a 2.45 ERA, and a WHIP of 0.954. Compared to his promising rookie year, he’s improved on every category: strikeouts are up (he’s leading the league in strikeouts per 9 innings), while his ERA, as well as hits, walks, and HRs allowed are all down.

Also:

2 strikeouts and a walk. Hopefully he can keep his strikeout rate under 40%.

The Cleveland Guardians have acquired C Patrick Bailey from the Giants in exchange for the 29th pick in this year’s MLB draft and left-handed pitching prospect Matt “Tugboat” Wilkinson.

Did they get him in a trade from the 1930s? Great nickname.

According to this profile, the nickname comes from his Little League days. His dad’s friend saw him running the bases and thought he moved at a tugboat’s pace.

He also features something called an “invisi-ball,” which he describes as:

In the profile is a clip of the pitch in action.

Bobby Cox has died.

Ted Turner must have made him a pretty decent offer.

Here’s an interesting one:

San Diego Padres pitching prospect Humberto Cruz has self-deported to Mexico after pleading guilty to two counts of human smuggling for picking up two undocumented people for $1000 each.

The Padres said that they expect the 19 year old to lose his work visa for 10 years, though he can reapply in 5 with good behavior.

The Brewers swept the Yankees this weekend, the first time that Milwaukee has swept the Yanks in a series of at least 3 games since 1989 (back when the Brewers were in the AL). With the wins, Milwaukee moves into second place in the NL Central, 3.5 behind the Cubs.
