MLB: Most consecutive foul balls

A new post-season record 17-pitch at bat happened in yesterday’s ALDS game between Boston and Tampa. It went 3 foul balls, 3 balls, then 10 straight fouls before a swinging miss for the strikeout.

Note that they only started recording pitches in 1988 so it’s possible that there were longer at bats before then.

I once read that in the real old days of baseball, radio broadcasters did not travel with the team, and they based their play-by-play of road games on written accounts that they received via wire. But they sometimes lost the connection and had to improvise some filler while they waited for the connection to be restored. One technique was to describe numerous consecutive foul balls, which prolonged the at-bat.
