Mlb & nesn

NESN has a pitch stat. Immediately after the pitch is thrown, the stat gives the type of pitch. Four seam FB, two seam, slider, curve, etc, are displayed immediately.

It seams to appear so rapidly that it must be done by computer. Probably based on the spin of the ball. Is this correct?

I don’t know how they figure the pitch, but I know it’s not always right. I went to an Indians game a few days ago and they immediately display the same information, speed and pitch type. And I guarantee you Andrew Miller didn’t throw a 77mph 4 seam fastball, as the display would have us believe.

Announcers, especially former players, can pick up the pitch type almost immediately. Someone with an isolated camera or in the ball park could input the pitch type very quickly. While it’s possible for this is being done by computer, it’s not necessary.

Thank you Telemark. I can only identify a fast ball, curve, slider. I guess that is why I am not playing major league ball.
