MLB: September 2010

Andy Pettitte pitched 4 efficient innings in his rehab for Trenton. He gave up 2 hits but got 4 Ks and 6 ground outs including a doubleplay and only one flyout. He is eager to rejoin the Yanks and felt fine after the game.

The Yanks do not expect to get either Marte or Ace back this year. These two were a big part of last years post-season bullpen. No one expects to see or cares about Nick Johnson. Most worthless signing the Yanks made this year and seemed dumb to start with.

Don’t remind me!

The Rangers finally came off their losing streak, taking the last 2 from the Jays. The pitching has been better (yay!) and they’ve even provided enough run support. The only thing to fear is that Lee will pitch Sunday.

Jose Bautista.

Jose BAUTISTA, baby.

What’s the MLB record for triples in a season by a catcher? Miguel Olivo just hit his sixth for the Rockies. I thought it might be Craig Biggio, but he only hit four in 1991, his last season before he moved to 2B.

Oh, and Padre/Giant fans - 8-1 Rockies in the fourth.

Since 1901, the record is 13, by the Cubs’ Johnny Kling in 1903, and matched by the Cardinals’ Tim McCarver in 1966.

The only other catcher to hit at least 10 triples since 1938 is Darell Porter, with 10 in 1979.

The Giants, Rockies, and Phillies are all a league-best 8-2 in their last 10 games.

With the Braves having to play the Phillies 6 more times, I can easily see the Padres and Braves falling out of the playoffs.

Fucking Padres lost again. That 12 of their last 15 that they’ve dropped. Once again they got good pitching, but no hitting. Fuck!

Anyway, the Yankees/Rangers game tonight had one of the worst calls i’ve seen in a long time. How the hell was this called safe?

I heard on a sports radio station that Lee was pissed about going to the Rangers since it only delayed the inevitable. However, I don’t think that Lee pitching poorly and not disclosing an injury is the best way to audition for a huge contract with the Yankees. I do expect Lee to be at his best on Sunday.

Jesus, the Padres don’t like making it easy.

They regained their 1-game lead today with a win over the Giants, but even in victory they only managed to score a single run. That was the fourth 1-0 game between the Padres and the Giants this year, and the ninth game (out of 14) decided by a single run.

Tim Stauffer pitched 6 great innings, and the Padres’ only run came on an opposite field home run by Yorvit Torrealba that just snuck inside the foul pole. Hopefully Mat Latos can continue his recent form tomorrow and get the win over Lincecum.

The Padres are now 2 games up in the all-important loss column.

Tomorrow is an absolute must win game for the Giants. Falling 3 back in the loss column at this point in the season would be disastrous.

And they are up against Mat Latos, who I believe is 8-0 against the Giants this year with a 0.00 ERA.

And the Rockies continue their patented late season winning streak. Nine in a row now with a 2-1 win over Arizona. I really like how things are setting up for them, with a three game set against the struggling Padres in Denver starting Monday.

Ten in a row. Jason Giambi with a walk-off two run homer in the bottom of the ninth. 1.5 games out of the division lead.

I can’t remember the last time the Yankees got swept in a series. I’m sure it wasn’t that long ago, but I can’t remember it.

Giants take 3 of 4 from the Padres.

Padres go on the road for 3 at Colorado and then 4 at St Louis.

It would actually be shocking at this point if the Padres weren’t third place after the next 7 games.

:frowning: I’m crossing my fingers that you’re wrong, but at this rate–ugh.

I’m buying tickets for the last Giants game because the Padres will be there. I’m hoping that they’ll still be in the running (if not back on a roll) by then.

Kyle Drabek, the centerpiece of the Halladay deal, is scheduled to start for the Jays on Wednesday against Baltimore.

They need to get some offense.

They’ve lost 13 of their last 17, and in those 17 games they’ve scored a total of 38 runs, or just under two and a quarter runs per game. I don’t care how good your pitching is, you’re not going to win many games with that sort of run production.

Awesome, isn’t? :stuck_out_tongue: The first game, Rangers won with a walk-off homer in the bottom of the thirteenth by Nelson Cruz. Second game, in the bottom of the ninth by a hit-by-pitch walk-off by the newly acquired Francouer. Tonight was just good old Cliff Lee. Yes, he’s finally pitching great again so maybe all this time it really was his back giving him problems. Thank our lucky stars he’s back to his regular (I hope) self.
