GAAHHH! I can only take so much more of this. The Giants are a game and a half out in the West and half a game out in the Wild Card, have a killer schedule in the next week, and yet they don’t even have the grace to just fall apart and save me hours of nailbiting agony. Pedro Feliz, I’m looking at you.
Just kidding. Sort of. I live in Chicago, and if the Cubs get into the playoffs and the Giants don’t my life will become a living hell. At least until the Cubs fall apart and fail miserably. (It’s rather comforting knowing this is inevitable.)
Ah…baseball in September. The Cubs, Dodgers and Red Sox all have a chance to get into the playoffs, and they will all muff it.
Kyla, I can sympathise with your pain. I agree…the Giants should just fall apart right now! Go, Blue!
The Cubs have to get past the Braves next weekend. I sure hope they don’t need to win those three games to get into the playoffs, because the Braves are going to be out for a little bit of revenge for last year.
I’ve also found that this year, it’s easier and less stressful to root against the Angels than for the Sox. I don’t care if they win the division…just make it to the playoffs, where someone else can take out the Yankees first round.
Yeah, I saw your name in the last commented bit and I knew what was coming. Bandwagon jumper. I know you’re not originally from New York! The Yankees are lame, and so are all of their bandwagon jerkface fans.
Hey, Barry only has three more years on that contract. What say we send a couple prospects and a broken-down reliever out there and let him hit some home runs where it’ll make a difference. He’s been complaining about all the walks, so I’m sure he’ll be happier someplace where he can’t be pitched around.
What about not making it in favor of a team that hasn’t really done much of anything since?
Speaking on behalf of the only team that has been in the playoffs every non-strike year since 1991, once we have the second best NL record secure, my feeling is that Bobby isn’t going to give two ripe shits about Chicago. So, Kyla, if it’s uber-important that the Cubs lose, keep the Dodgers winning. If, OTOH, you want the Dodgers out, the Cubs might end up winning against the Braves’ reserves.
Logically, Cox should do whatever it takes to make sure he plays Chicago, up to and including bribing the Giants to tank, the Cubs being a pretty sweet draw. I mean, they’re the Cubs - you’ve got nearly a century of loserdom working for you if you play them. It’s almost as good a draw as getting to play the Red Sox.
Either you misunderstood me or I’m going to misunderstand you here. I’m saying that Bobby Cox has more to win by letting his regulars rest as soon as he has the second-best NL record wrapped up.
I’m willing to let the Cubs be the wildcard, but the Giants should win the Division and the Dodgers (may they rot in hell) can go, well, they can go rot in hell. Unfortunately, the Giants finish the season on the road, and they have a mixed history when they are away from that small slice of weather heaven that is the Bay Area. The Dodgers (may they rot in hell) are at home, boo hiss, but I still predict a breakdown of epic proportions.
I have never followed baseball in my life. I can’t explain the infield fly rule or why the ball bouncing somewhere qualifies it as a double for the batter. I know of these Jeter and A-Rod people, but I couldn’t tell you what they look like. I was more interested in Stephen King in the audience than in the Yankees-Red Sox game the other night.
