Thanks to a never-ending rotating door of AAA callups, and a 4-game loss streak by the Dodgers, the Giants now find themselves only 6 games back and clinging to life, with LA coming to town for 4 games next week. It’s still going to take a minor miracle for them to make the playoffs, but at least they might actually make the Bums work for it!
All Yogi did was win.
Anyway, I said weeks ago the Blue Jays would be silly to just plug Marcus Stroman back into the rotation after a year off. I was about as wrong as you can possibly be.
Yeah, unless he suddenly implodes he’s pretty much got the #2 starter position locked in by now. He’s got everything working.
I undergo the same ACL reconstruction surgery he did next month, so Stroman is my personal hero right now. I can assure you that I won’t be doing sports at any level 5 months later though.
dodgers win on a night Grienke was scratched from his start, and Giants lose in the 9th. Nice to get off the magic # 7, now down to 5. Tomorrow maybe kersh can take a little further down the road.
Last night was the first time I really saw him pitch and he’s fun to watch. Gotta love his energy. Having gone through an ACL reconstruction, it amazes me when athletes get back to game level performance in anything short of about 9 months. Granted, they have the advantage of full time therapy while they’re recovering, but it’s still amazing he can come out and pitch at that level.
It would be nice to have it locked up before playing the Giants. I don’t want them to have even a shred of hope at the end of the season.
It’s an odd-numbered year. The Giants are out of it.
You don’t want your guys to celebrate their division win on the field at AT&T Park, in front of 40,000 Giants fans?
No pool, and the Bay is coooold…
You guys can still pull 40,000? After your season? I would have expected the crowd to be down to a couple dozen season-ticket holders and some sea gulls by now. ![]()
Hey, we’re still in this thing, baby!!!
Attendance for the last home game (last Sunday against the Diamondbacks) was 41,390. I expect that the upcoming Dodgers series will be sold out; the final series against the Rockies, perhaps not (unless you guys have somehow managed to not clinch the division by that point).
Baseball is an odd sport. Clayton Kershaw gets pulled after 5 innings, having thrown 80 pitches and down 3-0. He spends the entire time between innings yelling at Mattingly about being pulled (I don’t blame him), and yet, he’s now got a chance to win the game (Dodgers have scored six in the bottom of the 5th).
Greg Holland is done for the year with a “significant” UCL tear. His velocity has been down the last month or so, and has been extremely inconsistent. Their 6-innings games have now been stretched to 7 - though Madson and Hochevar have been excellent as well in middle relief this season. Tonight the Royals can clinch the division for the first time in 30 years with a win and a Twins’ loss.
I am really glad I live in Wrigleyville, this weekend is going to be epic
That’s why wins shouldn’t count when considering how good a pitcher is.
I’m going to all three games this weekend in Denver so I’m really hoping we clinch while they’re out here. I haven’t been to a single game this year so it’ll been nice to catch something cool.
And the Kansas City Royals clinch their first division title in 30 years, and are the first team in 2015 to clinch a division. Cueto pitched well, and seems to be starting to gel with Perez behind the plate. The best contact hitting team in baseball history getting their rotation and bullpen in order will be tough to beat in the playoffs.
Is it? All the Cubs really have to play for is an outside shot at home field advantage for the Wild Card Game.
Giants lose to the Padres again in extra innings.
It’s déjà vu all over again.
Go Royals!
