Cubs vs Padres, what could possibly go wrong?! <insert random 1984 reference here>
Brewers win #97 and break their franchise season record (was 96)

AL East is guaranteed a team in the ALCS.
Hasn’t been on since July. Moderator summoning shall thus commence: @RickJay .
Yanks win 8 in a row but Toronto didn’t cooperate with another loss.
If you know any Mets fans you might want to check with them. They definitely didn’t deserve to back into the final spot. That was an epic collapse that will lead to a Steve Cohen led bloodbath in the organization.
It seems like we will end the 2025 season with no no hitters.
Rays, you had one job. Beat Toronto just once in three games to give the Yankees a chance. I’m all for kicking them out of Steinbrenner Field next year.
This might be for the best. 5 days off might be worse than facing the Red Sox.
Yeah, I get that. Five days off puts some batters off their rhythm. I’d feel a lot worse if the WC series was to be in Boston and not NY. I was thinking that giving Chisholm some time off might be a good thing.
Makes sense. He started today and it’s a three game series.
Let’s go Reds! By far the largest payroll disparity in the first round. #19 vs. #1.
Clayton Kershaw pitches his final career pitch, and walks off to a standing ovation from both Dodger and Mariner fans, because the guy earned it.
Well, I’m back! Been busy trying to be a novelist.
Anyways, a few points.

I’ve been watching the Blue Jays for 40 years and absolutely without doubt this is the biggest positive difference between how I expected them to play and how they did play. Not even CLOSE. They outperformed my expectations by 15 games or so. Had you told me they’d win the division, and be in first place the entire second half of the season, I would have laughed in your face.
-
Winning the division is a big deal. It’s winning the Wild Card round except you also rest your pitchers.
-
The Reds making it ahead of the Mets delights me to no end. I hope they beat the Dodgers too.
I do NOT like the fact MLB allows division rivals to play in the WC (granted, this would be inevitable if all wild cards were from one division.) It seems silly for Cleveland, having just won the division over Detroit, to have to play them right away. It’s be more fun if Detroit, say, played the Yankees, and Boston visited Cleveland.
More Jays notes:
-
The Blue Jays went 94-68, but no pitcher on the team won more than 11 games. That has to be a record somehow, right?
-
I have a system for determining team MVP by assigning “Stars” to every game, and wins get way more points assigning to players… well, anyway, the Jays MVP was George Springer by this reckoning, and it does make sense.

Trey Yesavage. Holy SHIT.
Yesavage is 22. He STARTED THIS SEASON in A ball and was promoted 4 times. When they brought him up to enter the rotation I couldn’t understand what the hell they were doing, and by God, he’s pitched fantastic. Yesterday, five scoreless innings, in front of 42000 fans in a must win MLB game. Incredible,
Anyway I don’t know who will win it all but if I had to pick a team it’d be Milwaukee.
I can’t believe the Guards won today. I was super excited that Detroit lost so we could win the AL Central. We were down 8-5 going to the bottom of the 10th. Got a run in, like we’re typically able to do in the 10th (they’ve been quite good at that). Got 2 men on. Then somehow one random guy, our fair-to-middlin’ 2B guy Rocchio hit a bomb. His 5th of the year. That is almost more unbelievable than Saturday’s HBP win.
I’ll admit I was ready to give up on this team in August. I knew 2024 was a fluke. It was a fun fluke. I was ready to sit back and watch our rotating door of guys coming up from the minors try to get their footing over the next couple years. I was gonna tune in regardless.
I just can’t believe Detroit did what they did, and the Guards matched it. It really is spectacular!!
I don’t think with our -6 run differential we are going to go far in the playoffs. I think we have a VERY good chance of beating the Tigers (I agree @RickJay it is goofy that it works out that way) but the other teams in the playoffs are not there by fluke. They did not get there by The Power Of Friendship as we like to say about the Guards.
I’m super proud of my team and will be cheering the loudest if we make it out of the WCS but these other teams are here playing some Serious Baseball and I don’t like our chances.
But it’s been fuuuuuun while it lasted and I’ll be proud just to take our AL Central trophy and go home!
I don’t know shit about any of these other teams, they all seem like winners to me. Except fuck the Yankees, Red Sox, Cubs and Dodgers. They can all go home!
Only if the Dodgers don’t make it past the wildcard. He can still come back for the conference finals.
You’re right. The broadcasters made it seem like a given, but he’s only out for the wild card.
There’s a possibility for another game if they go past it.
Ohtani hit his 55th home run, breaking the Dodgers’ season record (held by himself, with 54 last year.)
I’ll post this here, since it doesn’t affect the postseason:
Bob Melvin out as Giants manager.
I’m fine with 10 of the 12 teams winning it all, so that means you can all look forward to a Boston vs Los Angeles World Series.
