MLK's I Have a Dream speech. Wow!

I just heard a tape of Dr. Martin Luther King’s I Have a Dream speech on the radio. (Many of Dr. King’s speeches and writings can be found here.)

Whenever I hear the speech I am reminded what a powerful speaker and writer he is. The short speech is immensely vivid and moving.

Every time I hear it, I visualize the issues moving the era, and how Dr. King harnessed the great tides of history in his voice.

Yep. And his passion for civil rights lives on in great people like Jesse Jackson and Al Sharpton. God bless America.

I hear ya, Billdo! That wonderful oration never fails to remind me of what is possible and worth working toward. A great link, too; thanks.

Happy Birthday, Dr. King. You helped make a better world for all.

Though the “I Have a Dream” speech is a masterwork, I am always exceptionally moved by the Drum Major Instinct sermon. I don’t even share his faith, and yet I find this sermon to be particularly moving. I first heard it mixed into a song, and it was absolutely amazing.

They played this speech over a loud speaker at school today - I don’t know which student group it was, but it was actually quite moving. I didn’t listen to the whole thing, as I had somewhere to go, but it was interesting to walk down the path listening to it.

I didn’t even know it was his birthday today - it’s not something that’s celebrated in Canada, though I think it was neat that a student group decided to celebrate it anyways, because its such an important and powerful message.

Evil people shoot holes in all of our great leaders and then we wonder why we have no great leaders any more :frowning:
