MMP: How to make Gravy

Yeah, it’s taken out of context, but i feel this bears repeating:

And you know people, there’s no rule that says you can’t have more than one OP in the MMP. Yeah, only one OP is truly a P that’s O for the MM, but around here, who’d notice? I mean really.

I have been in casinos in Monaco and in the Caribbean, and on an Indian reservation in Michigan. I have never been to Atlantic City or Vegas. I can take it or leave it, but I have never spent more in there than I intended to when I walked in the door.

Do they cut the pieces into squares? 'Cause there was a Sir Pizza by my high school, and that’s how they did it. I didn’t know they were a chain, though this was the early '80s when I was a patron of the joint.

Mandy the Martian was complaining about her bridesmaids. Seems they are all fighting. (I know, we’ve all heard this story, with just different names.) I told her to tell them, “You are all dressed the same way for the wedding because you are disposable. Step in line or step the hell out of the church.” But she doesn’t want to hurt their feelings.

I made angel hair pasta with Italian sasauge last night. The sauce (“gravy”, I guess) was crock potted all day and was great.

How about oil changes? If not financially responsible for them, she should at least know when they are due and inform you.

No smoking in the car!!! I went to buy a used car, and the first one I looked at was a smoker’s car. You can’t get that smell out, and cigarettes leave burn marks. I assume your daughter doesn’t smoke, but her friends might.

Take it from another Northern boy who has relocated to the South - they aren’t. Our digestive systems aren’t set up for grits.

And Drae, be careful in Amsterdam. I don’t think that the pot is legal for US citizens. I could be wrong about that, or the laws might have changed since I was there 12 years ago.

Well, I can’t take it home, but other than that, it’s allowed. Or I have a lot of friends who should be in a lot of trouble.

Even some prescription drugs can impair - I would say the only safe drug to take and drive is aspirin/tylenol/advil and the like

perhaps take a basic auto maintanence (arrhg! I can;t spell) course - she should be familiar with how an engine works so she doesn’t get swindled by unscrupulous mechanics

us go off topic? whatever would make you say such a thing?

Morning, everyone. Is it still morning? I guess it is.

Sounds good, rigs. Wow, your husband sounds like a… rather annoying person, really.

I have a serious moral dilemma- what am I going to give up for Lent this year? I think it will either be fast food and eating out, or the internet. Or I could fast every day till supper. Mr. Lissar is going to give up fast food and coke (shut up. The drink) and his caffeine deprivation will make for fun hijinks. I am leaning towards fast food, but I’m still deciding.
Today is Mr. Lissar and Driving Husband’s birthday party. We’re going out to a pub, assuming we can get everyone organized. So far it isn’t going so well. Trying to organize our friends is exactly like herding cats.

Ok, rigs already answered Spat’s Waffle House question. However, since fightin’ ignernce is what we be all about 'round here, I give you The Waffle House FAQ.

I agree. I think.

I did? <Miss Prissy voice> But I don’ know nuthin’ bout cookin’ no grits!<MP voice>

Oil changes are handled by the dealer-all maintenance is covered. I like the class idea–I should take one as well.

Smoking–Ha! Mention smoking to these kids and they look at you like you wanted to tie them up and do unspeakable things to them. None of them smoke, but on the off chance–in it goes.

Rx drugs: I agree. Even a double shot latte can jack her up. But I would cover this with her verbally. The med she takes does not impair driving.
I think I might need to say something about loud music and how it’s a distraction as well.

Vielen Dank for all this help!

I’m not a huge fan of casinos. I don’t really have any interest in going, because, like a couple of other folks have mentioned, I want something tangible for spending my money.

Grits…I’ve eaten them and have not been overly impressed. I happen to like oatmeal, but cooked with milk, not water.

Oh, and because I forgot yesterday, welcome to the new MMPers.

rigs, I’m glad the conversation went sort of well. Your rules for how to lose the keys sound good to me, but I think she should understand maintenance (oil changes, etc) too.

Newly licensed, under 18 drivers are not allowed to have other minors in the cars as passengers here in Washington state, unless an adult licensed driver is in the car. They have a kind of provisional license for awhile. They changed the licensing laws here a few years ago. I kinda think this is a good thing, but can understand how this could be a pain.

Smitty, that is great news! I’m wishing you luck for Monday.

I received my medal and certificate yesterday. The name of the award is the Commander’s Award for Civilian Service. My former boss said all kinds of really nice things about the work I’ve done, the difficulty of my position, and me. I was sort of dumbfounded and embarrassed. Still, it was nice to be recognized. For those of you with former military service it’s kind of on level with the Army Commendation Medal. One of the requirements for receiving the award that I did is to have been recognized with another performance award, which I had been.
At any rate, I took the medal set and certificate home, showed it to the hubby, and he wants to frame everything and hang it in our den along with all the other awards I’ve received. All my other awards are in a box in the garage collecting dust.

I best do some work now.

Sugar on grits? Ewwww! I’m from Chicago and know better than to do that! For those that don’t like the feel of grits, as Emeril Lagasse sez - if they taste like grit, they’re not done.

Didn’t buy any grits last night, but we bought a metric crapload of meat. Chickens were on sale for 99¢ a pound, so we bought a henhouse-worth, and beef roasts were on sale for $1.99, so we bought about 15 of them. A few got diced up into stew meat. (The store sells “stew beef” for $3.99 a pound, which is just insane.) We’re going back tomorrow for more so we can grind them into hamburger as 80% ground cow is “on sale” for $2.59 a pound in bulk packs. Let’s see… We already have the grinder for the KitchenAid, and roasts are selling for 60¢ less a pound than bulk mystery-meat burger? Who wants steak tartare?

We were up until 11:30 dicing and vac-sacking. But now, the freezer actually has food in it.

<snerk> Is that what you kids are calling it these days? <snerk>

I had to do something! This week’s MMP has an appalling lack of juvenility.

How could you have missed the referenced to boobs being nummy? I mean, Puggy posted that just because she knew it would give people a few snerks.

grits, grits, grits, oatmeal, grits…
doesn’t anyone eat Wheatena? yummmmmmmmm! espcially with butter and pepper! oh, but that brings back memories - think I’ll pick some up tonight on the way home

I saw it Taters and snerkworthy it was! I think I am most appalled at my own lack of juvenility this week. I was afeered folks would think I’d gotten some class or actually grown up.

You can’t give up the internet! We’d miss you!! :frowning:

I don’t think I’ve had grits. I don’t like oatmeal very much, but I just found hot oat bran cereal and it is tres YUM with maple syrup. Real maple syrup of course!

Thanks, taxi. I think giving up the internet would be like losing a limb. Weird and bad.
I have to go mail a package. I hate mailing packages. I am very very bad at filling out forms. I have been trying for weeks to get Mr. Lissar to mail this package, and he hasn’t. Argh.

One of our cats peed while standing on the edge of the litterbox. Stupid cat. I think they figured they were close, so it was still okay. No, it wasn’t.

Ooh! Lissla --if it’s ok with you, I want to retitle my husband Seriously Annoying Husband. (to be shared only here in MMP, of course).
I like the name. If he isn’t living up to it–he could be Not So Seriously Annoying etc.
