I don’t know for sure what Melbourne was referring to, but the technology behind the Segway scooter came from a wheelchair developed by Dean Kamen. I remember seeing a network news report on the wheelchair years ago, but apparently it didn’t succeed in the marketplace. More recently, Dean Kamen’s company partnered with Toyota to reintroduce it. I haven’t heard much since, but this seems to be the website for the company.
