"Moccasins" adage: origin and original phrasing

I used to have a vocational counselor who had hanging on a wall in her office a plaque or sampler reading something like,
“May I not judge my fellow man until first I walk a mile in his moccasins.”
I figured this was originally an American Indian saying, from an unknown (to me) tribe; but I don’t know where it originated, let alone the original wording.
Any Dopers know this?

I don’t remember the tribal origin - Shoshone maybe, but I’m not sure. I don’t remember it exactly, but it went something like:

Oh Great Spirit, grant that I may not judge my neighbor until I have walked a mile in his moccasins

I think there is more to it, but that’s all I remember.

Thanx
