Modems with Call Waiting ID?

Does anyone know of a modem currently on the market with Call Waiting ID?

Or a Call Waiting ID box with a serial interface?

All I have been able to find are small office systems, and that’s a bit more ornate and expensive than what I would like.

All I want to do is indulge my anal retentive data gathering tendencies and be able to save my caller ID information to my computer where I can massage and manipulate it to my hearts content.

I don’t know about a modem, if in fact you’re looking for a device with a display that will provide that info. Haven’t seen that.

However, there are applications, one of which is called Internet Call waiting that will provide this functionality.

What it provides is a pop-up window that appears when you’re online (dial-up) and someone is trying to call you.

You obviously need to have call waiting enabled as a service from your carrier in order to use this. There are also additional charges for this service above and beyond call waiting, at least from my provider (Bell Canada).

Basically, a window will pop-up over your browser informing you that someone is trying to reach you. Either a name or number will be displayed, and you’re then given the option of either taking the call, which results in your internet connection being terminated, or sending a predefined message to the caller saying that they should either call back later, or that you will contact them later.

These messages originate at your providers server not your PC.

I’ve installed and configured it on a friends PC and so far it has worked flawlessly. It’s a pretty useful feature for folks that are using a dial-up connection as opposed to DSL or Cable.
