Moderator Code of Conduct

Uncle Ben, is that you?

Yeah, Zeke, you may have missed the point.

Can we include something about respecting the Endangered Species Act?

Nm, it would take longer than 5 minutes to fix the formatting mistakes.

With dinner you get a choice of soup or salad.

Oderint dum metuant.

  • Caligula

omnia dicta fortiora si dicta Latina

With six, you get egg roll.

I might not have known what the word is for the area between junk and funk, but I do know–and the OED backs me on this–there is no such word as “irridity.”

I checked OED because I lost all my vocabulatory confidence recently.

I believe *Quod licet Iovi, non licet bovi * is the reply most often met.

But the other ATMB thread tells me the jovi and bovi became friends. Bon jovi, as the French compliment goes.

What QtM meant to say, unless he was planning on rewriting Tony Hendra, is “Be comforted that in the face of all aridity & disillusionment and despite the changing fortunes of time, there is always a big fortune in computer maintenance.” (Hey, it was the '70’s.)

Furthermore, “You are a fluke of the universe; you have no right to be here, and whether you can hear it or not, the universe is laughing behind your back.” Moderators, take heed to these wise words.

So says the poster on my wall.

Thnx. Fun parody–interesting that the two explicitly political references (beyond FBI) are to Pueblo and Tiawan–issues of foreign events of more interest, typically, to conservatives.

Hendra was a National Lamppon guy, wasn’t he? I first read your post as referring to some 1970s singer, who now I can’t put my finger on.

That poster reflects the times, i.e., 1972.

Yes, he wrote for NatLamp in its heyday. The poster originally appeared, IIRC, in the magazine. It was a parody of Desiderata, often thought to be “found” on the wall of a New England church, but actually composed by Max Ehrmann, and inscribed on the wall of a much older church than Max. Hence the common but misleading line, “Found in The Old North Church, {old date}”.

Not really a hijack; I think it should be part of The Moderator’s Manual, if only to remind us to lighten up occasionally.

With respect to Ed’s posting, this thread may be closed. With respect to the parodies this thread devolved into, I should have foreseen them with this crowd.

Your effort for a Moderator Code of Conduct is appreciated. I believe the board is self-regulating. Your attempt, rather than falling on deaf ears, has to my mind just shed light on the general mood of the board. You can judge whether we feel under authoritarian or latitudinarian* control. Thanks.

  • [sub]doo, dah, doo, dah - never used that word before. Looks weird.[/sub]

latitudinarian?”

Say it out loud three times after eating saltine crackers.

I looked up an antonym for authoritarian, saw that, it kinda rhymed, and I just looked at the first part of the definition “allowing latitude”. Hah! Well, that’s the kind of broad scope this board has. In depth, cogent analysis, and shoot from the hip (right into the foot) knee-jerk reaction!
