Moderator Note--New MB Features

The message board upgrade has changed a few things. The biggies:

Moderators can now edit posts without automatically leaving behind a note. I’m not thrilled with this but the techs have more important things on their plate, so I don’t know when/if it will ever get changed. David and I will do our best to remember to leave a note when we have edited your post; if you think we edited a post and forgot to leave a note, please email both of us and we’ll give you the Straight Dope. As before, the only thing that will get your posts edited is copyright violation, messed-up coding that causes sidescroll or otherwise screws up the board, or breaking the rules of the forum (spam, insults, etc.).

When threads are moved, we can’t choose to let a locked copy of it remain in this forum anymore. I’m sure this will make it awfully difficult for you guys to keep track of moved threads, so I’ll start a “moved thread” thread that lists moved threads and where they were moved to.

One added note – as before, we will delete dupes and the like without necessarily commenting on them. “The like” includes messages after the dupes where people say, “Oh, I didn’t mean to do that.”
