Mold and Humidity

This is NOT a homework question.

is heat the ONLY thing which influences how quickly mold will grow on a loaf of bread? When I lived in Florida, I could never leave a loaf of bread out of the fridge. The mold would grow in a day. However, the house was air conditioned.

In Arizona, I could leave bread out without it molding quickly.

The question is:

If the same loaf of bread was left out at the same room temperature at 10% relative humidity and 75% relative humidity, would the bread mold at the same rate?

Anything else besides heat influence the formation of mold?

I’d guess you have more mold spores in the air in Florida (or any other humid tropical environment). So even though the house is temperature and humidity controlled, there’d be a lot more colonies starting up.

Molds love humidity!
