Disneyland hotel employees were carted off to jail in costumes. This really is going to go badly when they haul away all the kiddie’s favorite characters in cuffs. This article is full of great pictures of characters going to jail. My favorite shot is Snow White followed by Tinkerbell.
I always knew Goofy was up to something!
Remember kids, don’t protest while wearing trademarked character costumes that are company property.
Okay, so why were they arrested? Which laws were they breaking?
I’m not defending these folks, mind you. I just don’t want to jump to any conclusions either way.
I’m guessing that guy in the first picture isn’t wearing his regular costume, because AFAIK all of the “animal” characters never show the actors real face. Part of the illusion, and all.
These weren’t the professional costume performers from the theme park. These were Disney hotel employees protesting for better pay (picketing), so I’d assume all the costumes are makeshift.
Probably purchased at the Disney Store.

My guess is that they were doing it on Disney property and were probably arrested for tresspassing.
My question is, why did one person decide to bring a gay pride flag?
The article says they were “taken into custody outside Disneyland”, that they had engaged in “an hour-long march from one of three Disney-owned hotels”, and “the picketers marched and chanted outside Paradise Pier”.
These statements are all vague enough that it’s impossible to say whether or not they had been on company property for some, all, or none of their protest. It seems like it’s being played as a ‘Hey, look at the funny pictures’ story. It is pretty funny, and if the police had reasonable suspicion that were laws broken, then the arrests are justifiable.
But there is the possibility that people got roughed up and/or spent a night or weekend in jail for peaceably exercising their right to assembly, on public property only because a large local employer didn’t want bad press. The article has no statements from the police as to the reason for the detentions, and it’s not clear that the reporter asked. It’s disturbing that the media snap pictures and write up a puff piece without even asking why their fellow citizens are being taken away. Typical crap journalism.
If you know the rally is going to get on the news, why not get your pet cause into the mix? No such thing as bad press, and all.
From another article:
Apparently, getting arrested was a deliberate stratagem by the protesters, to increase visibility. No direct quote from organizers to that effect, but it seems plausible enough.
