Didn’t he even try his hand at stand-up comedy? I seem to recall seeing him do a routine on The Tonight Show. He was a funny guy.

RIP Mongo. Karras was very good on MNF.
This too, he was a good straight man in that movie, then surprised me towards the end.
I remember Karras making one of the funniest comments I ever heard on MNF. The Oakland Raiders were playing and the camera cut to a shot of Otis Sistrunk, who never attended college, sitting on the bench. He had his helmet off and steam was rising from his shaven head. Karras commented, “There’s Otis Sistrunk from the University of Mars.”
