Andreas Katsulas (1946-2006)

Just read on the Sci-Fi Wire that this great character actor, best known as G’Kar on Babylon 5 has lost his battle with lung cancer. He was 59.

Patricia Tallman, at a con, a few months ago, mentioned he was very ill, but it is still sad to learn that he is gone.

Sir Rhosis

Dammit, that’s really upsetting.

Man played some spooky dudes – very well and convincingly.

Sad to hear he’s gone.

That’s depressing.

I think most people will remember him as the “one-armed man” in the Harrison Ford movie version of The Fugitive.

The episode of Star Trek: The Next Generation that he appeared in was on, like, yesterday.

I bet you’re right. He was the godfather in that sadly cliched Patrick Swayze Next of Kin and the badass killer in * Someone to Watch Over Me*. Always playing an Italian.

Katsulas actually died yeasterday (13 February). Wonder if they scheduled it before or after the announcement of his death.

Sir Rhosis

“I believe that when we leave a place, part of it goes with us and part of us remains. Go anywhere in the station, when it is quiet, and just listen. After a while, you will hear the echoes of all our conversations, every thought and word we’ve exchanged. Long after we are gone … our voices will linger in these walls for as long as this place remains. But I will admit … that the part of me that is going … will very much miss the part of you that is staying.”
G’Kar to Sheridan, Objects in Motion

We’ll miss you too, Andreas. May the Universe grant you peace.

Damn. G’Kar was one of my favorite characters. Some credit goes to the writers but most of the credit goes to the actor.

Aw, crap. sniffles

Another in a long line of reasons to not smoke.

Oh, how sad. 59 is a far too early age. May his soul depart this world in peace.

Yay, he’s on my Celebrity Death Pool list…41 points wheeeeee

41 sad points for me too.
Citizen G’kar shal be missed.

I saw him at a convention once. He was quite good at different accents, and what a voice! I’m stunned at the news of his passing.

“The war we fight is not against powers and principalities, it is against chaos and despair. Greater than the death of flesh is the death of hope, the death of dreams. Against this peril we can never surrender. The future is all around us, waiting, in moments of transition, to be born in moments of revelation. No one knows the shape of that future or where it will take us. We know only that it is always born in pain.”

This really sucks. He was so wonderful on Babylon 5, always a highlight of the show. He projected a great mix of danger, strength, dignity and humour. I always hoped we’d see him again.

Goodbye, Citizen G’Kar.

Damn. By all accounts, a great man.

Cancer at age 59. Damn. I’ll miss you G’Kar. Take care in whatever world awaits.

Oh, wow. Was not expecting this. I had no idea he was even ill. Damn. :frowning:

It doesn’t look good for any reunion of the B5 cast now.

He really brought a dignity to the role worthy of an ambassador. I’m just as shocked as the rest of you at his passing.

“Do not thump the book of G’Quan!”
