I’m confused about something… The news websites say that Montana’s Republican primaries were held in February, with Mitt Romney winning. But when I was at the polling place this morning, I was given two ballots, one for the Republican party, and one for the Democrat (only one counts; the other got thrown away). And the Republican ballot did indeed have a spot for the presidential election (McCain and Ron Paul were listed). So if we had our Republican primaries in February, what was that ballot for today?
The February event in Montana was a caucus. Today was the primary.
Montana’s Republican party had a caucus in February to determine who gets the delegates. They have a primary today, but it’s just a “beauty contest”…no delegates are awarded.
Ah, thanks. I had a hunch it might be something like that, but the sites I was looking at were referring to it as a “primary”. Presumably, the reason they still bother with the primary at all is for all of the more local races on the ballot.
