I’m so with you on that! Lucky John Cleese that got to marry her!
Wikipedia says not. I knew he’d been married to Connie Booth (Polly from Fawlty Towers).
Correct, Cleveland was never married to Cleese, Cleese was married to Connie Booth, who did also appear in a few Python shows.
Spot the freudian typo.
Sorry for that… Some misfiring synapses. I know it was Connie Booth. Zoot. She’s the one John married. But that’s what happens when my fiancee calls “dinner” as I’m trying to read the boards and finish posts…
Naughty, naughty Zoot…
But Connie Booth didn’t play Zoot. Carol Cleveland did: Monty Python and the Holy Grail (1975) - Full Cast & Crew - IMDb
Connie Booth was the witch (well, she was DRESSED like a witch!).
I wouldn’t have kicked Connie Booth out of bed, either.
Connie Booth was the lumberjack’s best girlie, by his side, who uttered the immortal “Oh Bevis! And I thought you were so rugged!”
Note that there was also “Mrs. Idle” who IMDB lists as appearing in 5 episodes, with “Scott of the Antarctic” as her best acting IMHO. She played a nurse in “The War Against Pornography”.
Carol Cleveland appeared as the girlfriend in the “Lumberjack Sketch” in some other versions so that can explain some people’s confusion.
I’m so ashamed… soooo ashamed by this. But, you have to admit, they all look similar: petite, blonde, fair skinned…
Anyway, I’m resigning myself to my Monty Python boxset and vow to memorize all the pretty ladies… Spent too much of my time looking at the foxy gents!
Carol Cleveland, not Mrs. Idle, was in the Scott of the Antarctic sketch, as the spoiled blond Hollywood starlet.
And as mentioned, Connie Booth was the woman in the Lumberjack sketch, not Carol.
Yes, but I beieve ftg was correct in saying that Carol played the girlfriend in some of the stage shows.
Lyn Ashley (Eric Idle’s first wife) is the ‘crumpet’ from the Planet Algon (from “The Nude Organist,” episode #35) , and also shows up as a juror in N’Jorl’s Saga (“Whicker’s World”).
Here’s a picture of her from the latter sketch, on the right, conveniently next to Connie Booth on the left. (No, I don’t always keep pictures of Monty Python members’ first wives on hand … just grabbed it from Netflix’s Watch Instantly!)
I’d be willing to bet this is who the OP is thinking of, given that he said he only saw her once.
I saw that episode again not too long ago and was stunned at how attractive the actress was. I checked her out on IMDB and was surprised at her fairily limited credits, especially given her mixture of Goldie Hawn goofiness and tremendous kn*ckers.
She really stood out in that episode in a way that even other attractive Python actresses didn’t.
Donna Reading kinda looks like a much goofier Michelle Pfeiffer to me. Very pretty lady.
Anyway, I came in here to say that you can see both John Cleese and Connie Booth naked – yup, completely – in a 1974 40 minute film they made called Romance with a Double Bass (you can get it from Netflix). Just, you know, in case you’re interested. Connie is, well, pretty busty for such a tiny thing!
I remember stumbling across that film one evening on our local PBS station when I was in high school (this would have been the early 80s). Was quite stunned to note that there was a totally naked (and very attractive) woman on my TV!!
The one that got me was an episode of Fawlty Towers, where Connie Booth walks around for the entire show with very prominently erect nipples. Assuming the show took days at least to film, was there some ice-cube work at play there? And, was this after their separation, and some way of reminding Cleese what he was missing out on?
Do you know which episode?
Note that I was using episode titles. See the IMDB link in my post.
Here is an example where Carol Cleveland is the girl in the Lumberjack sketch. Please reread my post carefully.
Regarding Donna Reading and her small IMDB entry. She has 3 things going against her: She was active a long time ago, did work in the UK vs. the US, and probably did mostly TV. She could easily have dozens of other credits that just haven’t been noted and added.
It wouldn’t have been in HD anyway, relax.
