Just saw the live feed of the final Python show. I thought it was very funny, elaborately staged, and a little sad knowing it was the last time they expect to do anything together. I was glad to see the theater pretty packed. Anyone else see it, either simulcast or there in person?
I went to see it with the Fella. We both enjoyed the hell out of it and left with huge grins on our faces. (Though I did cry a little at the end.)
Was supposed to see it but something came up. Will be catching the rebroadcast this week!
Right now watching the “making of” documentary on You Tube. “Imagine… Monty Python and now for something similar”
I saw the simulcast in a local theatre and it was fantastic. I’m glad I got a change to seem them perform live. Defiantly worth it; especially the Every Sperm is Sacred number (penis cannons shooting bubbles!). There was some confusion over the Intermission at my theatre; an employee actually came in a assure people that yes it was a really 30 minute intermission.
Saw it at my local theater and loved it. There were audio problems but not enough to ruin it. And when the “navy” was singing the extra verses of the penis song, I would have liked to see the words up on the screen but the director decided to pan and truck around with the camera so that we could watch the dancers instead.
Overall, very funny. And I imagine that John is glad that he won’t have to do the Parrot Sketch ever again.
We thought about going but I balked at the $18 ticket price and the three hour run time (we had some other plans for later in the afternoon). We may change our minds and try to catch one of the rebroadcasts this week.
Saw it at the local theater and it also had technical problems with audio but got them fixed. Also wanted to see the new words on screen but didn’t get them.
Enjoyed it a lot! Lots of good stuff and I liked seeing them in action.
Who all did they have with them on the stage at the end? Was David Sherlock there? And was Mike Myers some kind of big investor in the show?
It was fun and well-staged. My favorite bits were the accidents and the moments where they made each other laugh, like Jones reading the Crunchy Frog ingredients and Cleese and Palin cracking each other up with that digression/blown line in Dead Parrot. The performances were good but seeing the chemistry and the sense of fun that are still there.
Piss Off.
I think it was just a chance for someone to do a funny walk-on. At the first show, it was Stephen Fry.
I enjoyed the show a lot. I admit I was hoping for at least a couple of new sketches, but the way they “medley-ized” the old ones was pretty well done. And how cool was it to see Carol Cleveland onstage with them?
I watched the stream off the Denmark site today.
I loved it. I’m glad they produced a full show and they really delivered. It wasn’t just old men re-doing sketches; they had good timing and it was a lot of fun to watch.
I’ll miss them.
Just got back from the re-broadcast.
I literally have not laughed that hard in recent memory. I had to take off my glasses and wipe my eyes several times. A few times I thought I was going to hyperventilate!
I don’t know why I found this so funny. I knew all the punchlines! I absolutely adored all of the updates they made. I was like “Woah he’s going to do ‘I Like Chinese’??” and then it was updated and it was so good!
I think because it started with the llama sketch - and I’ve never seen it live, and it holds a special spot in my heart - that I lost my shit at the beginning and never recovered.
The ending with them on stage was sad but knowing how much they all kind of dislike doing this Python shit (at least Gilliam and Cleese)…well, good riddance to them lol
I think it’s great that they sold so many tickets so quickly and did so many shows, plus had such a large worldwide audience. I think it’s a great tribute to THEM.
Goddamn was that funny…I will definitely be buying the DVD.
I got my tickets in November and went in person to London to see them live at the O2 Arena.
The tickets were expensive, the trip from The Netherlands to London was not cheap, but I didn’t care at all.
It was wonderful and glorious to be there. I loved it. Every minute of it.
The new verses for some of their classic songs (especially the “penis song”) were fantastic. The penis cannons at the “every sperm is sacred” were definitely something else… And the chemistry and the synergy between all of the members of the troupe was something to behold. It was very energizing.
I am very glad that I was able to be there. And, as many others, I am sad that this is likely to be the last thing they’ll do together.
Everybody in the theatre standing up and singing along to “bright side of life” at the end was something to behold. And I am very happy that I was able to be part of that!
All in all, an extremely worthwhile experience. I think that the money I had to spend was money very well spent!
