Moody's Mood for Love and other interesting song stories

I know this song because it was legendary DJ Frankie Crocker’s sign-off for many years on WBLS. Today I found out more about it. See, what had happened was in 1952 Eddie Jefferson heard John Moody’s 1949 version of 1939’s I’m In The Mood for Love that has a sax improv in it. Eddie Jefferson put words to it, but only the improv part. Eddie didn’t name it or record it, however. Four years later (1954), King Pleasure did record it and named it Moody’s Mood For Love. This is the version that Frankie Crocker played for all those years.

I also learned that everybody with even a little hint of melanin plus Amy Winehouse made a cover of this song. I mean, there are pages and pages and pages of famous people covering this song, yet I don’t know many people who have heard it. And, also having nothing to do with the gist of this post so far-- what do you have to do to gain legendary status as a DJ?

The OP title does say there are other interesting stories but I don’t have any more. I was hoping to hear a few from you guys.
