Moon Mystery

This poster is off by a long way from being the most responded to, and should know it, we know it. Now for all the rest please remember to not feed the trolls, when at the park. They may follow you home, and you’ll have to call the animal control services to have it put down.

It WAS the 2nd most responded to post on your main page tho, was nt it? And as for the suggestion elsewhere that it is human nature to gawp at car wrecks, my post title gave no real indication of its content, so how is that relevant at all?
:smack:
Within this post , your erudite, helpful colleagues have managed to imply that I am 1. as thick as one of your McMuffins you are so fond of ; 2. that I am some kind of genetic throwback {The next time one of your reply`s casts aspersions upon my parents, I WILL SHOW YOU WHAT FRACTIOUS REALLY IS! I have actually tried to be very polite so far.} and 3. that my views are not really worth your consideration. Well, if that is how you are fighting your “war on ignorance” I can see you will be fighting for a long time. Still, it will keep some of you in a job!

Your chum across the pond.

While technically currently in Japan and permanently residing in US, I still resent the implication that SDMB is predominantly American in any sense of the word. If anything, it is in the English language, but we certainly have our share of members from all over the world. A true pedant might note that you’re almost always across some pond, but the yank implication is there.

We already explained that having a lot of views is no guarantee of quality. If you want a measure of success here, try for someone praising your post or thanking you for useful information.

Your thread title implies there is a ‘Moon Mystery’. There isn’t.

What views have you posted that are worth considering?

Why do you think any of us posters have a job here?

Yeah! If I had a job here, where would I hang out for eight hours to avoid doing it instead then?

Why do you keep referring to this board as “you yanks,” CJOK? While the bulk of this board is from the States, There’s a large number of British, Canadian, Australian and Irish Posters, and a good number of posters from all over the world. This is an English speaking board, not an American board. The majority of posters are probably American (though I’m not sure of that), but it isn’t a very large majority.

Actually, I count 106 threads with more replies than this one, and 420 threads with more views.

I think I played against this guy in a video game over the internet yesterday.

Lunar lander I hope.

Is the OP going to argue his position? He made some dubious claims at first, thanked people for providing linked information, and then went on to make general complaints and penis measuring by proxy with number of books read. He has yet to recant or rebut.

Also, I wouldn’t comment on your points 2 and 3, but 1 is the natural assumption when dealing with someone who would think the moon landings were faked. It would be nice to see otherwise though.

Lastly, people can easily guess that this is about moon landing denial even from just looking at the title as we have a mouse-over feature on thread titles. When I saw that this thread said, “Sorry if I am reviving a dead thrad[sic] here guys, but has anyone got a really convincing argument for why the R…” I naturally thought it was about the moon landing as a hoax and was curious how it was possible for a thread like that to last three pages and still be in GQ. I have since discovered that this happened by not talking about the OP past first page, but I still don’t see how it hasn’t been bumped over to GD yet.

Having studied the responses to this post, I would just like to clear a few things up, before I leave this thread to sink into the oblivion of your archives. I would first like
to apologise for my slur regarding the US flag; I was not trying to disrespect what this symbolizes for the average US citizen, at all. If I went to your home with said flag and proceeded to do what I described, THAT would be offensive {But, if some-one came to my house and did the same with a Union Jack, I would only say, “I think you have got the wrong house, mate!”} , and for my actions, I would probably be shot dead. Seven words printed on a screen mean nothing within the greater scheme of existence!
I would also like to address this point raised within the post and not scrutinised
with anywhere near as much attention as my flimsy hoax theory argument.

  1. " It’s deeply ironic that in this thread, CJOK suggests that the OP dump a friend who believes in racial stereotypes, yet in this thread proudly proclaims himself to be a moon hoaxer.

The two are equivalent to one another. Both require a total ignorance of modern science, a deafness to any and all arguments presented by science, and an embracing of trivial surface resemblances over deeper understanding of the facts."

Below is the post I responded to;
Hi. My Chinese friend sent me a diatribe this past weekend that had so many misconceptions in it that I did not know where to begin in answering him. I did my best but he still did not believe me. The most disturbing part was the racism. Here is a quote from him:
“Blacks (Africans) are born with gifts in athletics and music, West Europeans (English and French) are born with strong values in rules and laws, and East Asians (Chinese, Japanese and Koreans) are born with strong appreciation for education and learning.
Different races have different strengths and shortcomings so that we have lines of culture, creed and nation. However, some race like American Indian and Australian indigenous population did not have the attributes which allowed them to compete in an industrialized world so that their kindom gradually faded away from the stage of history. The current Mexican illegal immigrants are mostly descent of American Indians whose culture lacks appreciation for education and values of rules and laws.”

I tried to argue that current scientific thought does not agree that there are distinct races. I also told him that differences (where true) were cultural. He shot back with this:

“I found your argument about scientific proof of “non-race” quite informative. However I am still not convinced. If genes are not varied by races, how do you explain most basketball stars, track and field athletes, and most rappers are Blacks, most engineers and scientists are Whites, and most school nerds are Asians?”

AND, BELOW IS MY SUGGESTION
"Lets not get all technical about this, if your friend does not have the common sense to recognize that we are all members of one race, and that all differences are imposed as we grow, then perhaps you dont really need him as a friend anyway. Let him just carry on in his own mixed up little world. Eventually all these bigoted, prejudiced, wastes of a brain will die off. "
NOW here is fellow member RICK JAYS reply to the same post.
“Not one of his arguments stands up to even the most basic level of scrutiny. If he’s determined to be a racist, don’t bother trying to change him. It likely won’t work.”
Am I not saying the same thing, albeit a bit more callously? So why am I an ignorant bigot, again?

To be honest, the only thing I am really sorry about, is bringing this thread in to the wrong room. If I had took you same posters on with this in the BBQ Pit {Which, prior to yesterday I WAS ignorant of. Is that an execution in your state?}
you would all be" looking a right bunch of cunts", as we put it here in the UK.

So , now can you point me the right way for an argument please. Come on, you
have been very helpful so far.

p.s If you had previously been toying with me because of the naivety of my OP,
don`t hesitate to remove the kid-gloves next time we meet.

It depends on the kind of argument you want: WITH name-calling and profanity or WITHOUT?

For the former, try The BBQ Pit.
For the latter, try Great Debates.

Just start a new thread with a title like “The moon landings were faked!” and you’ll get plenty of action … .

Thanks Team. :stuck_out_tongue:

I think I’ll close this one, at least as far as trying to further answer the OP. I think there’s not much more to be gained in GQ.
