Moral question on skepticism

First I would like to state that I am a skeptical person and do not beleive anything without hardcore scientific data. But there are some people that will beleive anything that you tell them. In my opinion they are just plain stupid. Many skeptics try to show these beleivers the light and debunk the claims but most of the time its a lost cause. My question is why not make make some money off of it? One part of me feels bad at the thought of taking advantage of stupid people, the other part says hey they are gullible lets make a buck. So should you take the nobel path and try to teach someone that just will not learn or should you just take advantage of the persons gullibilty and make a buck or two?

REUTERS (Stockholm) – American T. Herman Zweibel received the Nobel Prize for Scams today. Zweibel, 73, is credited with the invention of the “pigeon drop”…

Well, we’re probably all of us gullible about something, or at some time, or under some circumstances. “You can fool all of the people some of the time. You can fool some of the people all of the time. But you can’t fool all of the people all of the time.” I’d say it’s just an application of the Golden Rule not to take advantage of other people’s weaknesses; after all, you wouldn’t want someone taking advantage of your weaknesses.

What, and call the whole government corrupt for preying on our fears by asking for tax money to support military and police?
Make a buck.
I reserve the right to change my opinion or actually formulate one should others disagree.

Do you rob children of Santa Claus too?

Why take advantage of stupid people? You’ve probably got one of those weak minded one in your family (we all do, in mine it’s a tie between my uncle “Cat Eater” Bruce and myself, don’t ask), and would you want to hear about them being taken to the cleaners?

No, I don’t rob children of santa claus. What would make you say that?

  1. It is not his fault he is stupid. (to pick an arbitrary sex for the one about to be “shafted”)
  2. It is not my fault he is stupid
  3. He should not be punished or restricted merely due to mental incompetence (so long as one can survive, of course)
  4. I should not be punished or restricted merely due to mental superiority (in this particular case, of course, I am not claiming to be Hawking here)
  5. Conclusion: any action which deliberately recognizes intelligence in either way is going to be “unfair.”

So, act like intelligence is not an issue. Assume all people have an IQ of 100 and go from there.

If you want to make money preying on the ignorance of others, would he accept 1$ to explain to a kindergarten class, ingnorant through lack of life experiances, why Santa is not real?

If you are aware that you are taking advantage of someone, then you are doing wrong. If yuo are okay with that, then there isn’t much question to this debate.
