A Hawker Jet collided with a glider near Carson City, NV. The glider pilot parachuted to safety. The jet had enough damage that the landing gear could not be extended, but was able to make a belly landing at the Carson City airport - no injuries to the six people who were aboard. Here’s a link
I have some additional information (unconfirmed). The jet was operated by NetJets, a big fractional-ownership outfit. The glider was apparently a Schleicher ASG-29, a nearly new model with an 18-meter wingspan. The Japanese pilot had launched out of Douglas County Airport near Minden, NV, about 20 miles from the collision point.
The collision took place at around 16000’ MSL. This appears to be airspace in which VFR (i.e. non-ATC-controlled) flight is legal. If so, the rule would have been “see and avoid” and the fault would thus appear to lie principally with the crew of the jet. (But note that this is not based on full informaion about the incident.)
