I recently had a thread re: home insulation. Learned a lot. But my circumstances have changed. I’ve got some new situations and would love info from those in the know.
1 – we’re re-doing our roof. We’ve got a flat roof with no insulation, and we’re going to put insulation in there and then put a reflective roof on top. Any suggestions on the best type of insulation to use?
2 – we’re doing the roof as part of a major remodel, where we’re adding a floor to our house. Basically we’re on a hillside, you walk into house on top floor and go down (house is build down the hill). The foundation area is a giant open space under our 2nd/bottom floor. We’re going to add a floor there without changing the footprint of the house.
So for the bottom floor, we’ve got lots of insulation options. I’ve looked here but I can’t really figure out the best one to use based on this.
We’ve got a wood frame house, so the concrete is probably out of the question. I like cellulose, but hear that it can compress over time, and is also attractive to termites… but that the fire retardant treatment also keeps termites away and that the compression has been pretty much dealt with.
So much conflicting info out there!
Anyone have good experience with insulation that they can recommend? PS - we’re in a fire zone, so fire retardation is very important to us.
Thanks!
