That is the deal. Cops have to be lucky all the time, these asshole only have to be lucky once.
James Earl Ray was a loser, too.
Oh, I see he wasn’t going to Africa until next year. When I first heard the story, it sounded like he was flying out the next day or something. Still, I didn’t think having a pistol in luggage was concealed. I’ve taken a cased pistol to the airport several times and no one has batted an eye when I checked it in. I’d like to see how this turns out, as I don’t want to find myself in a national news story. $10,000 bail seems pretty extreme. I wonder if that’s normal.
It would be funny if the guy turns out to work for Haliburton on Schlumberger, who probably have rooms at the Denver Hyatt all the time, and the Hyatt loses the corporate account over this. (I don’t blame the clerk for calling security, I do blame them if it turns out that the guy or his company is a regular, and the Hyatt sold them up river after the fact)
I think you’ll find that he’s just a patsy.
I agree with you, as far as that goes. I’m kind of a pushy jerk sometimes but the gods themselves couldn’t get me near Denver with any of my guns this week. Even with a CCW. And a lawyer brother. That’s just stupid.
The Denver PD might have over reacted, but not the clerk.
The manager was the one I was pointing at. A regular (well, a repeat anyway) tries to check in and the guy says “We have no idea why he was in my lobby”. Um, because you’re a hotel and a clueless guy was attempting to conduct business?
Sorry Dio, I’m continuing the hijack for just one more post.
Rumor has it the hotel guy was carrying a concealed handgun not in his suitcase but on his person, so he got busted for CCW without a permit and not for having an unregistered gun (whatever that means)
Also he consented to a search and that’s how the handgun was found.
Clerk at the hotel was, as expected, ordered to report any weapons.
No cites, just heard it from a guy that knows one of the arresting officers sister or something like that, so I know it’s true.
