I’ve done some searching but nothing turned up. When you start the game you get a letter that you are told to take to this chap in Balmora. If you examine it (I’m deliberately not saying “read”) you find it is in some cypher.
I cursory attempt to solve it immediately got me into trouble. It seems as though the cypher is not constant throughout the letter, as there are (apparently) too many characters used to form one and two letter words.
Common one letter words are “I” and “A”. Two letter words usually stick to “of” “at” “it” and “to”; though there are more, you’ll note the reoccurance of some letters there, and the letter itself seems to not follow any suit.
Just hoping someone out there has more time to waste than me…
LOL, but within the context of your answer, it fits! I never thought that it might not actualyl be anything… I’ll have to start another game and see if it is different or not…
hmmm…i don’t know the game, but is it a long cipher or a short cipher? if it’s of a decent length, you can e-mail it to me and i can see if i notice anything about it. i’m wondering if you can simply post it here (i assume there’s copyright issues with that, but i don’t know.) there’s plenty of code breaking dopers about.
there’s plenty of ciphers out there which are not based on a constant simple letter substitution, but i’ve no idea what you have unless i see it.
No, there is a translation out there on the web somewhere. I found it while looking for info on how to pass the quest near Caldera where a woman is looking for thieves that stole her ::ahem:: family jewels.
I’ll try to find the site again… it was pretty obscure.
