Moss as houseplant (dish garden)

I got some teeny weeny little adirondack chairs and garden tools, so I decided to make a dish garden to display them in. I’m going to use small stones for a path and patio, and I got a false aralia and a schefflera (sp?) for trees, and I’m going to use moss for the grass. The question is – how to water? I’m thinking focussed watering for the two “trees,” and my impulse is to just mist the moss – does that sound right? Does anyone have any experience with using moss in dish gardens?

This guy says yeah, use a plant mister or sprayer, and that the moss will need to be sprayed at least every day, depending on how dry your climate is.

Thanks for the quick reply, Duck Duck Goose – and thanks for the excellent link! I’ll definitely spend some time poking around there later.

Schefflara like lots of sun, while false aralia does not. A happy umbrella plant will also quickly expand to take up whatever room is available in a pot. They get to be large plants!

Hmm, good point, Squink – I was just looking at the plants in the 2-inch pots from the point of view of “does this look like a tree, kinda?” Sounds like the false aralia will work a lot better. I got a third plant, which looks a lot less treelike, but I don’t remember offhand what it was. I’ll check the label when I get home – if it’s low-light, I’ll call it a big bush and plant it along the back.
