Most Bizarre Musical Duet or Collaboration

Dwezil Zappa and Ahmet (Who??) doing a cover of “Hit Me Baby One More Time”.

No, no, no, no, no.

Don’t make me relive this again.

I was channel surfing and I saw/heard:

John Sebastian (of Lovin’ Spoonful/Welcome Back Kotter theme song fame) singing Nashville cats with (turn away now.)

REally, don’t read any further…

Florence Henderson (aka Brady mom, she’s got “Wessonality”)

Arghhhhh My ears!! My Brain!!!

Really Happened : Tammy Wynette and The KLF. IIRC the video had as a background a kind of miltilevel pyramid with hordes of leopardskin-clad dudes dancing and waving spears.

Real collaboration:

Elton John and Axl Rose (Freddie Mercury tribute concert, they sang “Bohemian Rhapsody.”)

or

Luciano Pavoratti and Sheryl Crow

One that I’d like to see? Three words:

Simon and Gwarfunkle

Paul Simon, Art Garfunkle, and Gwar!

I’ll let you imagine the lyrical possibilities on that…

I have a 1940s recording of Jimmy Durante and opera star Helen Traubel singing “Our Voices Were Meant for Each Other.” Helen was a grand sport!

GG Allin and Jordy team up to sing “God Bless America”.

Ah, thanks for the correction. Will go bash up my source now…

Tom Waits and Crystal Gayle on the “One From The Heart” soundtrack. And it’s absolutely wonderful.

Eq

I personally think it would be highly amusing to see a collaberation with…

David Allen Coe and Puff Daddy.
(Disclaimer) I do not endorse either “artist”.(End Disclaimer)

John Denver & Placido Domingo did a lovely song called “Perhaps Love.”

Freddie Mercury and incredibly hefty soprano Monserrat Caballe did an entire album called “Barcelona” that was excellent.

Pavarotti and Bryan Adams - I forget which song, though I believe it was the one from Robin Hood.

Hmm. Why is it that everything I came up with involves an opera singer?

Re: the Bowie/Crosby collaboration - I’m told that Bowie’s descant was written specifically for him, because the actual melody didn’t show off his vocal range (such as it is) enough.

I saw the Bowie/Crosby “Little Drummer Boy” duet on Pop-Up Video once, and one of the bubbles said that at the time some people suspected the whole thing might have been put together by computer! They thought it was THAT bizarre! Of course, this was a more innocent time, before Eminem teamed up with Elton John.

F.Y.I. . . .

The Julio Iglesias/Dianna Ross song is “All Of You” (He has an awesome voice, but his heavy accent makes him sound weird when singing in english)

The Tammy Wynette/KLF pairing is titled “Justified and Ancient” . . . nice early '90’s techno/dance tune . . . but bizarre lyrics . . ("All bound for mu mu land . . ")

No, no, don’t do that. It’s entirely possible that your source is not a rabid Peter Gabriel fan, and therefore can’t be held responsible for errors like that. And anyone who hasn’t accepted Peter Gabriel as their personal savior is going to hell anyway, so why add insult to injury?

(It’s a very tolerant, forgiving religion).

Duran Duran singing “White Lines”, the classic Grandmaster Flash rap song.

Oh, Pat Boone doing heavy metal. He came on Politcally Incorrect with leather pants.

Or, oh yeah, Tom Jones doing Prince’s “Kiss” in his unique style.

Ack! no! I thought I had completely forgotten this one. Now I find that it’s still cluttering up my brain, along with all of the other crap from the 80’s.

THAT was my choice too.

Would’ve given my lovely right arm to have been there when AXL was told who his partner would be.
