Does British football have any equivalent of Nebraska Cornhusker fans?
Husker fans are every bit as passionate as any soccer hooligan, but they’re almost comically nice, and so friendly that part of you thinks, “This has to be a joke.”
I can’t think of any team like that in the UK. Though it is worth pointing out that though football hooliganism originated in the UK , it has largely been cleaned up.
Fulham FC have a reputation for a small and polite fanbase as they’re based in an affluent area of London and they’re in the shadow of Chelsea, whose stadium is only a mile away.
As a whole neither Liverpool nor Everton (the two Liverpool teams) fans have a particularly rosey reputation, but the Merseyside derby is sometimes called the friendly derby and fans from both sides intermingle outside and inside the stadium. The reason is that it is quite common for members of the same family to support different Merseyside clubs.
The undercover cops and stadium basement jails are features of Veterans Stadium, dynamited a decade ago, and have never been a feature of Lincoln Financial Field.
I’ve been to a few games at the Link versus division rivals, and at most, rival jersey wearers will be subjected to nothing more than well-spirited verbal razzings, but no violence.
Basically, the trash has been priced out of Eagles games.
Meanwhile, I have heard horror stories about gang members threatening Phillies fans at Dodger Stadium to the point they were afraid to get up up and cheer when the Phillies made a big play.
Im voting for Dodgers fan here.
BTW, what is with all the EPL soccer posts? The OP said AMERICAN stadiums.
Swimming, protective and ski goggles don’t count LOL—and yes, before you got there, Kareem Abdul Jabbar wore protective goggles because he had a scratched cornea
Nominees:
Bob Griese
Kurt Rambiss
Marcus Dupree
Dick Allen
Eric Dickerson
Chris Sabo
As you noted, half this discussion is about fans of British football teams when the OP asked about American. Now that’s low hanging fruit. Philly teams? Pfft.
