Most despised visual artist.

I have always hated Thomas Hart Benton.

And I’m not too fond of David Hockney either.

I agree. David Hockney is in that category of “If this painting were by anyone other than David Hockney, it would be worth $5 at a yard sale.”

Putting aside the merits of the painter for a moment, don’t you all realize what a piece of history you’re looking at?

The first lap dance!!!

shrug He’s one of the few pre-20th century artists I actually do like.

But anyhow, other than obvious choices like Kinkade, my irrational hatred is of Dali. Never liked him, never will.

LOL. (I actually like a lot of Hockney’s stuff, but that was pretty damn funny.)

Those damn cavemen at Lascaux! Always with the bison, deer and horses. Enough already! jeesh!

Warhol irritates me to no end.

Jenny Holzer and Paik Nam-june need new shtick.

I’m surprised that no one has mentioned Slug Signorino. As much as I enjoy reading Cecil’s columns, the artwork leaves a lot to be desired.

You’d still need me to complete the picture.

I hate Warhol. I know exactly what he tried to accomplish with everything he did, I just thought it was an idiotic thing to pursue.

I recall my Freshman year in college, when his death was announced, my first thought was “Good. Now maybe we’ll hear less about him.”

Those paintings by Hunt are amazing. How can you guys trash them so much? I think they’re fascinating to look at. The amount of detail is astounding. The way he captures the texture of the wood piano and the glass windowpanes in the background is pretty admirable.

Personally I don’t see how anyone could hate Thomas Hart Benton’s paintings. Why do you dislike them, Encinitas?

Jackson Pollock is the brunt of many jokes. Though for the SDMB Thomas Kinkade is the despised artist of choice.

I’ll put in an outsider vote for Marceau Marceau as the prime instigator of mime .
