Genghis Khan – Possibly tops in numbers killed (40 million)
Caligula – Psychotic Roman emperor
Jean-Bedel Bokassa – Cannibalistic African dictator
Mehmed Talat – Initiated the Armenian genocide
Adolf Eichmann – ‘Banality of evil’ remains evil
Ghengis was a conquerer. He was out to expand his empire, wealth and influence. Vlad just killed people for the hell of it. His idea of a good sport.
Thanks, BlinkingDuck. I love these threads!
Attila the Hun: Led rapacious, murderous hordes
Heinrich Himmler: Ran Hitler’s death camps
Jeffrey Dahmer: Odious, cannibalistic serial killer
Vasili Blokhin: Personally killed thousands for Stalin
Francisco Solano Lopez: Almost destroyed his “beloved” Paraguay
If I were a betting man, I’d guess Pol Pot will win.
Thanks Elendril…I like these things.
Still waiting for someone to nominate Jesus Christ or Mohammad
I actually thought of Lopez…a top 3 contender in worst military leader thread…but incompetence is not same as evil…or is it?
Ivan the Terrible - had thousands tortured and killed in The Massacre of Novgorod; beat his pregnant DIL, causing a miscarriage
Isabella of Castile - helped create and oversee the Spanish Inquisition
Ilse Koch, Bitch of Buchenwald - wife of commandant at concentration camps; took money from inmates; made lampshades etc. from their tattooed skin
Irma Grese, Bitch of Belsen - Sr Supervisor at Auschwitz; tortured women prisoners with attack dogs, whippings
Delphine LaLaurie - sadistic slave-owning socialite fond of torture and mutilation
I can’t express how delighted I am that this hasn’t happened yet. It gets old, doesn’t it?
Tamerlane - truly pointless butcher; made ruins of cities and towers of skulls (you thought that was ol’ Genghis? Wrong!)*
*Note: the historical figure, not the SD poster
Careful Malthus. Tamerlane will come into this thread and kick your butt!
Wouldn’t ‘cut off my head and make an architectural ornament of my skull’ be more appropriate?
“That’ll learn you for calling me evil!”
Fifth nomination:
Ibn Taymiyyah - intellectual founder of radical Islam.
He’s mellowed over the last few hundred years.
And one other thing – I have read that he killed huge numbers of people specifically to clear land for grazing horse herds.
Hey, that reminds me.
Torquemada – greatly expanded the Inquisition; his name became a byword for torture and fanaticism
Yeah, but think of the fig trees!
One things for sure…you can’t Torquemada anything!
[/History of the world part 1]
No, but his (mis)conduct crossed the line into evil, I’d say: naked aggression, megalomania, blind ambition, massacres, flogging his own mom, executing 23 bishops who wouldn’t agree to his canonization, etc. etc. etc.
Lopez should be better known in the world at large, the way he keeps popping up in threads like this - kind of your all-purpose historical bad guy. He really was quite awful, and probably crazy.
My votes:
I’ll also say:
Mao Zedong
Hitler
Stalin
Genghis Khan
Pol Pot
I’m gonna nominate Carl Panzram, murderer and all-around brutal guy. Others have killed more, or more gruesomely, but Panzram was something else…

Joe
Here is what we have so far:
Adolf Hitler - Started WWII which resulted in much death and misery.
Joseph Stalin - Killed millions of his own people and terrorized the rest
Pol Pot - killed 21% of his people
Idi Amin - killed 100,000-500,000 countrymen in 8 years
Elizabeth Báthory - Vlad, not the only player in town
Gilles de Rais - Child murdering satanist
Leopold the second of Belgium - cut out the heart of africa and left a 150 years of civil war and genocide
John Chrysostom - influential early exponent of Christian antisemitism
Josef Mengele - for the win, good luck topping him
Lavrentiy Pavlovich Beria - Stalin’s butcher
Mao Zedong- capricious, heartless megalomaniac
Vlad the Impaler - Estimates are he killed 30 percent of his own people. He was a nasty.
Sargon of Akkade - The first imperial conqueror; established the state as an aggressor.
Trofim Lysenko - Scientific crackpot used Stalin to strongarm opponents
Genghis Khan – Possibly tops in numbers killed (40 million)
Caligula – Psychotic Roman emperor
Jean-Bedel Bokassa – Cannibalistic African dictator
Mehmed Talat – Initiated the Armenian genocide
Adolf Eichmann – ‘Banality of evil’ remains evil
Attila the Hun: Led rapacious, murderous hordes
Heinrich Himmler: Ran Hitler’s death camps

Tamerlane - Truely evil SD poster…or truly pointless butcher; made ruins of cities and towers of skulls
Ibn Taymiyyah - intellectual founder of radical Islam.
Torquemada – greatly expanded the Inquisition; his name became a byword for torture and fanaticism
Carl Panzram, murderer and all-around brutal guy. Others have killed more, or more gruesomely, but Panzram was something else…
I see what you did there.
Wow. This guy was hardcore evil. Per Wiki, said to his executioner, when asked for his last words: “Yes, hurry it up, you Hoosier bastard! I could kill ten men while you’re fooling around!”
