Most Extreme Elimination Challenge?

Anyone catch this last night? I think, though I may be mistaken, that it was the first night of this show. It looks like a combination of Fear Factor, Iron Chef, and MST3K. I can’t tell whether it’s a genuine Japanese show that’s been intentionally mis-dubbed, or whether the bits were filmed specifically for this purpose.

Either way, I hate myself for considering it one of the funniest things I’ve seen on TV since the Simpsons’ 7th season. I was literally howling with laughter. Am I alone here?

I believe that would be William Mulholland’s quote about being asked to run for mayor of Los Angeles.

“I’d rather give birth to a porcupine backwards than run for mayor.”

As a man, I doubt he used the birthing contrast so often as a scatalogical one. And that would be a Most Extreme Elimination Challenge.

I saw it too…

It was hilarious for a few minutes…then it got sorta lame. I guess people getting hurt was funny.

The novelty wore off, but I’d watch it now and again (say, once a week for 30 mins or something).

If you haven’t seen it though, check it out. It’s worth a gander. I think it was on TNN.

I saw this too and I really want to know if it’s a genuine Japanese TV show or a parody. I’m pretty sure the “addicts” and “organ donors” were fake, though…one guy donated his medula oblongata?!?

Also, the hosts had non-Japanese names…which might have been changed by the translators, who knows.

I don’t know about the dubbing, but it was broadcast in Japan in the late 80’s/early 90’s as “Takeshi’s Castle”. It was hosted by Kitano “Beat” Takeshi, somewhere in between lighting his assitants’ crotches on fire while trying to spank half-naked schoolgirls on Super Jockey, and receiving the Palme d’Or for Kikujiro no Natsu.

They just MST3k the dialogue. Honestly you don’t really need to know what they are saying to understand what is going on, but some of the remarks are really funny.
