The ones who irritate me are the political wannabes who so arrogantly declare that they’re going to “send a message” to their opponents/targets/whatever. Hey, even if the “message” is sent ever so clearly, it’ll get tossed out as soon as it’s received.
And I remember when FTW meant fuck the world. Now it apparently stands for the truly horrible “for the win!”

i had no idea…that is oh so sad
“getting their buy-in” in corporate settings…sets my teeth on edge
Also “it is what it is”
Oooh! Thought of another trendy phrase that many use to lend faux profundity to their speech:
“As a”!
As a this or that, I feel whatever actually blah blah blah-
OK, so you are whatever you state you are by saying “as a”, but if I’m listening to you in person, I probably either knew that’s what you are or really don’t care.
And since we’re talking about life and he’s no longer living, wouldn’t that mean he’s FAILED, not PASSED?
“You will be missed!” i.e., “Somebody will miss you. I can’t or won’t say who. You guess.”
This is one of my husband’s pet hates. People who say, ‘Speaking as a mother…’ He’s fine with it in contexts like ‘Speaking as a mother, I find my life involves way too much pureed carrot,’ but mostly it’s used in contexts that have absolutely nothing to do with motherhood except that somehow it’s supposed to lend extra weight to the speaker’s opinion about society or some new law or whatever.
I do not like “absolutely” as an answer to a rhetorical question.
I hear it in sports broadcasting all the time, particularly in golf. The lead analyst will make a trivial observation to the on-course reporter and of course the reporter is obliged to respond, and more often than not the reporter will say “absolutely”
I don’t like the gratuitous use of “absolutely” too much either, but as a answer to a rhetorical question, it “absolutely” irritates me. grrrrrr
I despise a lot of portmanteaus, especially the newer ones. It’s strange, because I don’t object to most of them (wiki link with examples I don’t object to, including “wikipedia”: Blend word - Wikipedia).
A few I do despise:
bromance
gaydar
Brangelina
Bennifer (when they were a couple)
Referring to a woman having a baby as “popping out a kid”.
On the other hand, I do rather like “slipped her sucker.”
