Most menial job description you've seen where a degree is required??

So I saw a job listing for a cashier at McDonalds. The job description for this cashier position said that a bachelor’s (4-yr) degree is REQUIRED. Yes, they want a 4-yr degree just for an employee to say “Would you like some fries with that?”. Got any ridiculous degree requirements for menial jobs you know about that you’d like to share?

I don’t believe you.

It’s accurate but it was a mistake in the listing.

My first job out of college was at a pet food factory in quality control. One part of the QC team was someone would show up at work at 4am, grab bags of dog food off the lines and then scoop them into plastic bags for microbiology testing.

The guy who did this originally was great at it, but they wanted to hire someone new with a college degree in biology to do it. Nobody took the job, so they just kept the original guy (who did well at it).

Did you really intend this thread for the Pit?

If not, I’ve got you covered; I’ve reported it to recommend a move elsewhere.

If you did, well, it’s still been reported.

Clown? Barber? Elector?

A friend of mine put herself most of the way through college working as a receptionist. Thirty years later, she wanted to finish her degree but didn’t have a job at the time, so to make some extra money to pay for college, she tried to apply for a job as a receptionist and they were requiring bachelor’s degrees to answer the phone and schedule appointments.

Moved to MPSIMS.

I worked in the civil engineering field most of my adult life. Three years at the Big U, no degree, and engineering was never in my sights. I lucked out getting an entry level engineering job, and I was fortunate that there were enough old school engineers who would teach me on the job.

I worked my way up to Tech 2, and found the majority of my time was babysitting the new hires with degrees, teaching them the same stuff I had been taught. I grew annoyed with the ones who looked down on any grunt work, saying with frosty overtone, “I have a degree.”

ANY JOB DESCRIPTION I have seen anywhere has the last line “and other duties as necessary.”

The toilet overflowed? Pick up a plunger and a mop and get busy!

I find this a lot. Sometimes it’ll be generous and say “or X-years’ experience.” But if you want a part-time person to answer your phone and transfer calls, not even doing anything specialized for minimum wage AND a degree? Get the fuck outta here.

Several years ago I recall seeing a landscaping job that required a degree.
I didn’t even know you could get a degree in landscaping.

You can get a degree in golf course maintenance. You’ll probably be out of work because golf courses are closing down left and right and there aren’t any job openings. But you’ll have that degree. But the guys with the degrees are basically landscapers.

There are degrees in Horticulture and in Landscape Architecture. Basic yard maintenance shouldn’t require either.
