Bah!
Dark Side of the Moon may be overrated simply because it is so highly rated. It doesn’t necessarily follow that it is not pure distilled audio awesome. Because it is. And I agree with the previous poster that said Wish You Were Here is above perfect. . .and for the record, I’ve never taken an illegal drug.
Nilsson Schmilsson isn’t overrated because I seldom hear anyone mention it at all. If anything, it’s underrated. Harry was a tremendous vocalist. Too bad he spent so much time wasted.
Another vote for Dark Side of the Moon. Whenever I hear that cash register I want to punch something. WYWH is awesome, though.
Due to The Point, everything Nilsson does is ok in my book.
In Utero is much better than Nevermind.
Wish You Were Here is much better than Dark Side of the Moon.
The White Album, Abbey Road, and Rubber Soul are much better than Sgt Pepper’s.
So I can understand calling those albums overrated, to the extent that they are rated higher than superior works in the artist’s own catalog, even though they are good albums.
OK Computer doesn’t belong on the list any more. It is a very good album which at one time was overrated (probably by the very same people who wrote this list), but at this point the hype has settled down. The same holds doubly true for the Smiths.
The Rolling Stones’ Goats Head Soup has my vote for most over-rated. The cover picture is nausea-making, and the first song “Angie” follows suit. “Angie, Angie, ain’t it great to be alive?” Yeah, Angie, it’s great to be alive, now hit the road. I’m into a younger kid.
