Most used movie plot/remake?

What movie has had the most remakes?

What movie character has come back the most times in the most movies?

What piece of literature has had the most movie interpretations?

None of the above include sequels.

My answers are A Christmas Carol, Frankenstein, and A Christmas Carol.

I seem to remember reading somewhere (Guiness Book of World Records perhaps?) that Sherlock Holmes was the most filmed literary character, with over 100 individual films based upon him.

Characters and stories from the Bible?

I was going to say that if any one author got this title, it would be G-d, if not Dickens, Shakespeare, Stoker, or Shelley. But if it’s a Bible story, which one? One would assume the passion. Even then, a great many are made-for-TV, which I somehow feel don’t count. So we have:

Gibson’s Passion.
JCS
JCS2000
Greatest Story Ever Told

Which others?

Queen Victoria, Queen Elizabeth I, Dracula.

The IMDB lists that 162 guys have played Dracula.

That’s a lot.

Tarzan has to be up there. (Especially if you include characters inspired by the Tarzan story. Crocodile Dundee, for example.)

Also, there have been about a million permutations of the “rich girl/guy falls for guy/girl from the wrong side of the tracks” plot.

I believe GBoWR lists *Dr. Jekyll and Mr. Hyde * as the book made into a movie the most.

There have a large number of films that are based on the short story “The Most Dangerous Game”, but most of them do not acknowledge the original work.
