Back in November, I started this thread about my mother-in-law’s sudden, terrifying bout of hypertensive encephalopathy. Qadgop and KarlGauss were kind enough to weigh in with some information and suggestions at that time.
She recovered from that incident nicely, and from that time until last week, a bevy of medical professionals have been trying everything in the book to find a cause. They ruled out more potential conditions than I even knew existed, but her nephrologist finally came up with a winner: Fibromuscular Dysplasia of the left renal artery! She had balloon angioplasty done on Friday, and although they had anticipating placing a stent, the surgeon felt that the angioplasty alone was sufficient. They’ve already reduced her blood pressure medications, and she’s doing fine so far. We’ve got our fingers crossed that this problem’s taken care of.
