Mother Nature, please!

Has anyone else noticed that nature is starting to hit below the belt? Earthquakes in:
Turkey
Greece
Taiwan
Mexico

Hurricanes:
Floyd
that other one

Outbreaks of:
E. coli
New York brain fever (the one they thought was St. Louis encephalitis; I don’t know the real name for it)

Droughts in the midwest

Floods in various places (mostly in Floyd’s wake but I seem to remember some other ones)

General malnutrition in a lot of places (some of that is humanity’s fault, I suppose)

Probably some other stuff I forgot

I can see how some of the earthquakes might be geologically related (esp. Turkey and Greece), but the rest of this stuff seems like a ridiculous coincidence. Or maybe I’ve just been listening to news radio too much.

If Mother Nature is reading this, allow me to humbly apologize for the dodo bird or whatever has gotten you in such a nasty mood. I would be very thankful if you could see your way fit to disciplining my species in a gentler way. I suggest reducing fertility rates among people who drive sport-utility vehicles. Thank you for your time.

Well, sometimes the punches come in bunches, but over the long haul, I don’t think we’re seeing anything new here.

We just hear about it more.

The Information Age.

When I was a kid, Turkey had earthquakes.

But the news was on page 14.

Ya think?
