What I hate is the way Mensa is made out to be some sort of genius organisation. According to movies and T.V. shows, members of Mensa are supposed to spend their time discussing high-brow topics in language far too sophisticated for the average person to understand. I always thought members of Mensa were of the highest class of genius.
And now I find out that anyone who got a 1250 on their SAT before 1994 is eligible to join Mensa! That means almost everyone I know could be a member of Mensa! And those few who couldn’t certainly wouldn’t consider someone a genius for getting 1250 on the SAT. It’s a good score, I guess… but criteria for genius? Not to mention the fact that most of the tests which they accept can be taken multiple times. So practically anyone could join Mensa if they wanted to badly enough.
Is this a common misperception of Mensa or am I the only one who was thus deceived?
Why don’t you JOIN Mensa and start getting your puzzles published in their books? If your ego smarts at the thought of joining up, think of yourself as a fifth columnist working to bring the whole corrupt highbrow regime down from within.
If I remember correctly, all Mensa does is license their name for the cover of the books–they have nothing to do with the preparation. So you might want to contact the book publisher and find out if you could be their next scroteclamp.
Sorry Slim, I aint publishing my manuscript on the net. If you want I can e-mail some of my puzzles to you but this site has just got too much exposure.
P.S. Gobear, if you’re still interested in this thread, what do you think of the story I linked to?
