I’m from Russia and I try to popularize the irrationality of homophobia. I used Great Debates section of this forum to improve my skill of arguing against homophobia (see this thread for example). Thank you guys, you gave me a lot of good points.
Now I’m going to a motor rally giving my new speech about homophobia. I’m gonna travel through Russia, including the most homophobic regions (i. e. Chechnya). If you guys find it interesting, I will post regular updates here.
Why is it important?
People in Russia are unaware about anti-scientific, illogical nature of homophobia. Many pieces of research are just not available in Russian. I’m trying to fix it by uniting the best sexologists, sociologists, etc. around a wiki that explains that kind of stuff. But the problem is our access to media is very limited, so this kind of offline activity is quite important, it supposedly will help spread the word to a significant amount of people.
Is it a suicidal act?
Well… many people around me believe so but I’m gonna prove the opposite. It’s definitely risky but I’m quite experienced in managing homophobic crowds: LGBT activist vs. 15 naked homophobes in Russia - YouTube Although it’s hard to predict how it will end: violence and imprisonment are definitely options to consider.
