Mouse in the house...

Got a couple mice taking up residence in my apartment - likely trying to get relief from the string of hot weather systems we’ve had this summer.

One offed itself by trying to get a drink out of the toilet, it fell in and couldn’t get out. The other is rampaging around in the kitchen, has snagged the grapes off the counter and likely stashed 'em under the stove for leisurely nibbling along with crackers and cat food… yeah there are three of the fuzzballs in here, but they’re too damn lazy to go after the critter. Sorry, no pictures. :frowning:

So off to the store to set up a few traps, lets hear about your trapping adventures.

With a name like pythonzzz, I figured you, of anyone, would be able to take care of some mice.

When you rat trap it I garuatee your cats will take interest. Cat are just weird. Gotta love 'em. Don’t let them eat it though, It may be diseased.

The snakes I had ate bunnies… mice woulda been like mini-snacks.

I had a mousy houseguest or two 10 years ago or so. I installed devices similar to these and have been, as far as I can tell, rodent-free ever since.

mmm

Cool Japanese mouse trap in action:

SFW. Humane live-catch trap. No rodents have been harmed, they are released into the wild.

I once had mice in the very small apartment I shared with two feline overlords. Their food and water bowls were in the bathroom, located about 5 feet from the bed they allowed me to share. I found out we had mice because I found mouse dookies in the kibble bowl!

I’m sure you already know this, but just getting rid of the mice you know about isn’t going to solve your problem. You need to find their entry point/s and seal them. Steel wool is great because they can’t chew through it like they can plastic or wood.

I was reclining watching TV lat night, when I felt something furry against my leg. I thought it was the cat, brushing me with his tail, but when I looked down, he was facing the wrong way for his tail to have reached my leg.

Turns out, he had tossed his newly-caught (dead, at least) mouse up onto the couch for me to play with.

Ew.

You’ve got three healthy cats who won’t rid your house of rodents? You should goad them into action. Trying shaming them like the cat in this photo.

OK, I was wondering about those. We have a mousy intruder who must have been startled by the traditional trap he ate off of but didn’t get trapped by, because he hasn’t tried it again. I am going to try that ultrasonic thing.

Get one.
Use it.
They work great!

Beastie annihilated.

Used a basic snap-trap baited with a dab of peanut butter on the trigger. I put it out around dusk and it went off in about an hour. One fat house mouse down. Reset the trap just in case there are others still lurking.

Ditto here! He took a couple of days to get up the nerve to try the PB in the new location, and SNAP! Another trap is set downstairs just in case.

Caught six more of the little vermin - haven’t found the probable entrance yet. Potential areas might be behind the baseboard heaters, likely they’re coming up through the wall as I’m on the second story of a triplex.
