Movie About Escaped Genetically Engineered Dog

I just had a wild thought about a movie (I think) from around the late 80s/early 90s, about a dog which had been genetically engineered (for war?) with killer instinct, greater intelligence and certain body modifications that was released from the lab by animal rights activists(?) and ended up adopted as a stray by a family with kids.

I remember the dog having retractible claws and climbing a tree at one point, and of course, the upshot of the premise that I remember was that the dog ended up stalking and killing anyone who hassled family members.

I’ve been trying to remember more about it, but I’m not even sure about the breed…I thought it was a St. Bernard but I can’t find any mention of anything similar googling “St. Bernard movies”.

Anyone have an inkling?

Thanks!

Plague Dogs

Man’s Best Friend?

Watchers with Corey Haim? Based on a Dean Koontz book.

Einstein wasn’t a killer, and didn’t have genetically modified claws-he was just smart.

I should not be so awed that it took only 7 minutes…I’ve been here since 2000, so that’s nothing new.

Czarcasm got it! Thank you!

Sorry, colander…I actually meant to mention that I knew it wasn’t Plague Dogs in the OP and forgot.

I also wouldn’t rule out Titanic: the Animated Movie. The dog in that is shady as hell.

My vote would be for Cowboy Bebop, featuring adorable, animated Ein, the Data Dog

What - this isn’t a vote for the best show featuring a genetically-engineered dog?

Since OP is answered, I always liked A Boy and His Dog

Also, the Grant Morrison comic WE3 is excellent.

Even though that’s not it, that film is more scary (or rather depressing) than any cheesy horror flick ever made!!

Was there a voice that kept on calling him?

He was telepathically linked to another genetically enhanced creature(not dog) that was a killing machine.
