We;'ve hashed this over many times on this Board, but before George Romero’s Night of the Living Dead, zombies didn’t eat people*.
On the other hand, they weren’t exactly cute and cuddly. They were spooky because they were DEAD! and walking around, and mostly didn’t really pay you any heed.
But there have been friendly zombies. In the Disney (!) film Hocus Pocus the witch-raised zombie ultimately turns out to be friendly.
*Although they DID occasionally kill people before George. They just didn’t eat them.
ISTR that one of the proposed ideas for the latest fall TV season (US) was something where the dead had come back to life but apparently just wanted to go back to their “normal” lives. (So the neighbors or the new kid at school would be zombies or you had zombie coworkers at the office or whatever.) I’m still trying to find a cite though.
Wasn’t there a fairly recent movie where a high school kid who died in an accident came back as a zombie and just wanted to start living as a teenager again, going to school, part-time job, etc.?
