Movie ID needed

Hey all … my Google-fu is not working for this one, so wanted to ask here.

There was a really bad movie from the 70s. As best I can remember, a computer was in the house; it ended up taking over the house and keeping a woman hostage. It took an egg from her and incubated it in this big incubator.

When the baby was born, he looked normal, but had the voice of the computer.

Please help! Thanks
FS

It sounds like Demon Seed, starring Julie Christie and Fritz Weaver.

Correction: a very *good *movie from the 70s, called, yes, *Demon Seed.

Yay … got it in one!

And lissener, with your feedback, I definitely need to see it again. Don’t trust my judgement for movies of that time (i.e., movies I saw when I was young).

Hell, I thought that Starship Invasions and The Time Machine (from 1978) were good films. Until I watched them many years later

It’s definitely got a near-campy overstatement about it, but it’s one of the more effective Technology-Bites-Us-in-the-Ass movies, with the addition of a machine-on-human rape scene which is camp-free and very disturbing.

I agree. The whole robot rape scene was unforgettable.

That sounds terrible honestly

Definitely a fine movie. Got trashed because of the concept (Julie Christie raped by a computer!), but it is an effective film that holds some interesting surprises.

I’m afraid I’m not a fan of the film, but it did have some interesting features. I especially like the computer-designed polygonal appendage that served as a general-purpose grabber. That was very cute.

It was also pretty neat that they actuially used an existing Spectra=Physics laser as a laser in the movie. I think that’s the first time I’ve seen a brand-name laser used in a film. Of course, the laser beam was faked, and the capabilities of the laser absurdly amplified, but. hey, it’s a movie. Whattya expect? Can’t have a laser and not have it do movie-laser things.
Using Robert Vaughn’s voice for the computer also annoyed me. I kept seeing Napoleon Solo9or at least Vaughn’s pre-Kyle McLachlan face) every time I heard it.

I’m flattered, but I assure you there’s a huge gap between the experience of watching this movie and the experience of reading my sentence or two about it.
