I saw a rough-cut preview of it at the University of Wisconsin-Madison in early '84, a few months before it was released. The directors (Jim Abrahams, David Zucker, and Jerry Zucker) had attended UW, and thought that a college crowd would be a good judge of the movie’s humor; they did a hilarious Q&A session after the screening.
