Film in which an actor surprised you when you saw how good he/she was
Naked Gun: 2.5 – Priscilla Presley
Safety Last! - Harold Lloyd
He’s best known now for his stunts and pratfalls, but I was really impressed by his acting, too. Even in a silent film, he conveyed everything from joy to annoyance to love with remarkable authenticity.

Judy - Renee Zellweger
Captain America: The First Avenger - Chris Evans
When I heard that the guy who had played the sophomoric wise-ass Johnny Storm in two Fantastic Four movies had been cast as Captain America, I had serious doubts. But, Evans was letter-perfect as the everyman-turned-hero, and became one of the linchpins of the Marvel Cinematic Universe.

Continental Divide - John Belushi
Belushi in a rom-com? Yes, and he makes it work. Unlike drunken frat-boy Bluto, and Joliet Jake Blues, both of whom would do what no reasonable person would do in the circumstances; Belushi plays a Chicago investigative reporter sent to interview an environmental researcher in the Rockies absolutely straight. The plot unfolds as expected, with Belushi given some great lines (“The bear ate my cigarettes!”), but he’s always in character according to the movie. It’s not a movie for Belushi fans who want to see him as Bluto or Jake, but he proves that he can act in this one.
