Not looking at the dictionary… I would say that a myth is very old, usually involves gods and goddesses, and often has no connection to history, while a legend is more recent, usually involves mere mortals (although very remarkable ones) and often has some connection, however slight and much-revised for better storytelling, to the history which inspired it. But there are always exceptions, and the line between them can certainly be blurry.
