  7. In Bruges

A very dark 2008 crime comedy, written and directed by Martin McDonagh (who later did Three Billboards Outside Ebbing, Missouri). It stars Colin Farrell and Brendan Gleeson as a pair of hapless Irish hitmen who’ve been sent to Bruges, Belgium on “vacation,” while their boss (Ralph Fiennes) decides what to do with them. I saw it a decade ago, and to this day, if I see the name of the city, I reflexively say, “Fookin’ Brooge,” in Farrell’s Irish accent.

  8. Memento

Great film with Guy Pierce, Joe Pantoliano and Carrie-Ann Moss.

Detective\Revenge story, told backwards in 5 minutes increments. Narrated by a man who, due to head injury, cannot form new memories and had to rely on poloroids and tattoos to tell what’s what.

Well-executed story about Irish gangsters in South Boston, with arguably Denis Leary’s best film performance. Plus it’s great to watch Colm Meaney play a bad guy.

I wholeheartedly agree about In Bruges and Memento. Great movies.
